Active surveillance of pathogenic agents on hospital surfaces to prevent hospital-acquired infections.
In Portugal alone, everyday there are 12 deaths associated with hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), a number which is seven times higher than that of the number of fatalities related to road accidents. Annually, amongst the 1.2 million hospitalized patients, nearly 11% of them suffer from an HAI.
Recent attention has been given by Health Governmental Institutions that have implemented specific surveillance programs to collect data on HAI and have issued regulations in this sense, which are of mandatory reporting by Hospital Institutions.
Nowadays, pathogen monitoring in hospital environments is mainly performed using conventional microbiology methods (Petri dishes culture with selective growth media) and luminescent determination of ATP concentrations.
An innovative service for the periodic surveillance of pathogens in hospital dry surfaces.
